Naturally, it’s important for you to know who your tutor will be, so here’s a little bit about me.
I started my teaching career back in the early 1990’s after graduating from university with a degree in Sport Science. I taught English as a Foreign Language in Japan for five years where I became a Director of Studies at the school I was working at. It was in this role that I was first involved in teacher training and development and I absolutely loved it!
I realised then that as well as classroom teaching, this area of education – teacher training, coaching and mentoring was something that I wanted to be more involved in. It was in Japan that my interest in using technology in education was also piqued.
Those years of teaching and leading in Japan provided a solid platform for me as an educator and certainly helped inform my teaching practice. To this day I still refer back to the many lessons and techniques I learnt about being an effective classroom teacher and trainer and I still use them in my practice today.
After leaving Japan, my wife and I worked in the UK in the English as a Foreign Language education sector in Eastbourne before I trained to be a PE teacher in 1999.
I took up my first position in a school in West Sussex, where I taught for eight years, four of which as Head of Department, before returning to Eastbourne as Head of Department at a highly regarded school in the town. I completed my masters degree in education from UCL during this time.
At the same time that I started at the school it introduced iPads to all students and became a 121 digital learning school. This provided me with the opportunity to further develop my interest in educational technology and digital learning and after seven years as Head of Department, in 2019 I changed my role to become Director of Educational Technology (Digital Learning).
I am now able to combine my passion for teaching and learning, physical education, teacher training and development and the effective use of technology in education by supporting colleagues and students in developing their digital skills.
And that’s why, in my spare time, I create online courses because I want to help transform teachers’ and students’ lives and because I love what I do!
If you like the sound of who I am and you think I can help you with your studies or teaching, please do contact me and we can discuss things further.
I’m here to help and I’m looking forward to working with you!
